Layer Navigator is an add-on for Google Slides™ that extends the service's capabilities by adding a layers panel known from graphic design programs, which makes it easier to manage layers on slides and enables additional operations that are not natively available in Google Slides™.

Known limitations

Even though the add-on extends Google Slides™ capabilities, it operates within the technical limitations imposed by the Google Slides™ API, which means that performing some operations on layers is slightly different from how typical graphic design tools work.

Below, I describe the main differences so that you are aware of them and have a full understanding of how the add-on works. Therefore, every new user gets 3 days to familiarize themselves with the tool for free.

The layers panel is your navigator (hence the name of the add-on)

It's best to think of our Layers Panel as an advanced navigator that complements the standard workflow in Google Slides™, rather than fully replacing it. Due to API limitations, the panel doesn't always know in real-time what you are doing on the slide. Here are the key principles of operation:

Selecting layers happens in the panel. For the panel to know which layer you want to work with (e.g., to change its size), you must first click it on the list in the Layers Panel. Selecting an object directly on the slide will not be automatically reflected in the list.
Changes on the slide require synchronization. If you add, delete, or group objects directly on the slide, they will not appear on the layers list immediately. To synchronize the view, use the "Refresh" / "Sync" button in the panel.
The Properties Panel works based on the selection in the Layers Panel. To edit an object's properties (color, size, position), first select it from the list in the "Layers" tab, and click the "Edit properties" icon. The panel will automatically load the data for the layer you last selected.
